Food trucks are the hot new thing, so why not jump on board? The food is typically local and you do not have to do dishes.
You can usually find out if there will be a food truck event in your area by conducting a few online searches. In the Bay Area, I look for Food Truck Mafia on Facebook.
In the summer, there are local events in different east bay cities, usually 4:30-9:30 and they have a live dj. There are some seats, but a lot of families bring their own folding chairs. I suggest going early (although there rarely are lines) because we still have to follow a bedtime routine and it starts to get cold. Our little ones likes to people watch and there are plenty of kids around to keep him entertained.
If you want a break from cooking and do not mind eating outside, check it out, especially as it starts to warm up.
